Hey guys , U . S . Attorney Roger B . Handberg just announced that Robert Edward Smith , a 59 - year - old dude from Fort McCoy , has been indicted for having some unregistered firearms - a machinegun and two silencers . If he ' s found guilty , he could face up to 10 years in the slammer . Basically , on February 15 , agents searched Smith ' s place in Marion County and found the illegal weapons in his bedroom . None of the stuff was registered to him like it should have been . The Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement handled the investigation , and Assistant U . S . Attorney Belkis H . Crockett is gonna prosecute the case . This whole thing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods , a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities . The Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy on May 26 , 2021 , focusing on building trust in communities , supporting organizations that prevent violence , setting enforcement priorities , and measuring the results .
