Hey , guess what? The Department of Labor just got back over $100K in wages for 26 home healthcare workers who were denied overtime by their employer , Family Hands Adult Care Facility . The employer got hit with almost $10K in penalties too . Can you believe it? Turns out , this care facility in Los Angeles totally ignored the overtime pay rules . They were paying regular hourly rates for overtime hours worked , which is a big no - no . And get this , the owner didn ' t even keep track of employee time records , even though they had a clock - in system . So messed up . Anyway , the Department of Labor managed to recover $64 , 800 in unpaid overtime wages and another $64 , 800 in damages for the workers . Plus , they slapped the facility with $9 , 684 in penalties for their willful violations . According to Susan Bacon from the Wage and Hour Division , this kind of stuff happens way too often in the care industry . It ' s not fair to the employees who are just trying to make a living . Thankfully , the Department of Labor is holding these bad employers accountable for their abuse and exploitation .
