POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Development Services and Planning Manager and is responsible for assisting the Development Services in the enforcement of the various codes; and the use and occupancy of buildings, structures, and lands, whether public or private. The Code Enforcement Officer has the primary responsibility to assure that the safety and health of the public are maintained through adherence to those requirements as established by law and assisting the Development Services department with the administration and enforcement of the local, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and regulations for all buildings and structures; administers code enforcement ordinance regulations, to obtain compliance, as adopted by the City; and performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
One to two years of experience using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook preferred. Prior construction, legal, or law enforcement experience is helpful. Bi-lingual is a plus. Prior city experience is a plus. Must be able to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and pre-employment physical. A Code Enforcement Officer is an agent of this state or a political subdivision of this state who engages in code enforcement and has one year or more of experience in the field of code enforcement, so this is a requirement.
Must be Certified as a Code Enforcement Officer issued by the Texas Department Licensing & Registration (TDLR). A person may not claim to be a code enforcement officer or use the title "code enforcement officer" unless the person holds a registration issued by TDLR.
Code Enforcement is the inspection, improvement, and rehabilitation of environmental hazards in public and private premises by determining the presence of fire or health hazards, nuisance violations, unsafe building conditions, and violations of any fire, health, or building regulation, statute, or ordinance.
A Code Enforcement Officer is an agent of this state or a political subdivision of this state who engages in code enforcement and has one year or more of experience in the field of code enforcement. A Code Enforcement Officer-in-Training is an agent of this state or a political subdivision of this state who engages in code enforcement but who has less than one year of experience in the field of code enforcement and is supervised by a registered Code Enforcement Officer.
Pay Grade
:
6
($41,369-$59,985) paid bi-weekly, depending upon experience and qualifications.
