Loveland , Colorado’s cherished February tradition to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the nation’s Sweetheart City returns once again as the City of Loveland prepares to install 380 hearts through the Thompson Valley Rotary Club’s Loveland Hearts Program . This year , the City will take love to new heights with additional expansions and multi - departmental collaborations .
Starting today and continuing next week , street light poles along three major Loveland corridors will transform with large , wooden hearts painted featuring community - submitted words of affection , devotion , and admiration . Thompson Valley Rotary enlists the help of Thompson Valley High School students to paint the hearts each year .

The tradition , which has been a part of Loveland’s history for more than 40 years and managed by the Thompson Valley Rotary Club for over 30 years , continues to gain momentum . Each year , the Rotary is filled with applications from residents to have a chance to proclaim their love .
For this labor of love , the City’s contribution is valued at $8 , 000 a year and includes installation and removal of the hearts , plus equipment costs . A multi - departmental collaboration between the City’s Power and Traffic Operations crews will reduce costs to the Traffic Operations Division and enhance efficiency . The installation requires a coordinated effort from the crews with bucket trucks and safety gear and dedicating six to eight hours to bring this heartfelt vision to life .
The City was able to donate time to hang 30 additional hearts this year .
