☷Bowling Green Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Federal Prison for Methamphetamine Trafficking and Firearm Offenses

A guy from Bowling Green , Kentucky got slapped with a 15 - year prison sentence today for dealing meth , helping someone else deal meth , and having a gun even though he ' s a convicted felon . U . S . Attorney Michael A . Bennett , Special Agent in Charge R . Shawn Morrow of the ATF Louisville Field Division , and Director Tommy Loving of the Bowling Green/Warren County Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area ( AHIDTA ) Drug Task Force made the announcement . Court documents say that 41 - year - old Steven Phelps will spend 15 years behind bars and then another five years on supervised release for dealing meth , helping someone else deal meth , and having a gun even though he ' s a convicted felon . On August 3 , 2022 , in Warren County , Phelps had 2 , 433 grams of meth with the intent to sell and gave 8 . 734 grams to someone else to sell . He also had a nine - millimeter handgun that day . Phelps wasn ' t allowed to have a gun because he had been convicted of some other serious crimes before . On April 24 , 2015 , in Edmonson Circuit Court , he was convicted of dealing drugs . On August 15 , 2011 , in Edmonson Circuit Court , he was convicted of making meth . And on November 15 , 2004 , in Warren Circuit Court , he was convicted of having drugs . The federal system doesn ' t do parole , so Phelps won ' t be getting out early . The ATF Bowling Green Field Office and the Bowling Green/Warren County Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area ( AHIDTA ) Drug Task Force handled the investigation . Assistant U . S . Attorney Mark J . Yurchisin II , from the U . S . Attorney ' s Bowling Green Branch Office , handled the prosecution . This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , a program that brings together law enforcement and communities to reduce violence and make neighborhoods safer . The Department of Justice launched a strategy to strengthen PSN on May 26 , 2021 , focusing on building trust , supporting community organizations , setting enforcement priorities , and measuring results .
