The FBI , SJSO , and SJCSD are teaming up to help parents and educators protect local kids from online predators and extremist messages . They ' re hosting the Be Smart with your Kid’s Smartphone program on February 15th at Creekside High School . Since 2018 , over 2 , 500 parents and educators in North Florida have attended Be Smart events to learn how to keep their kids safe online . FBI agents and SJSO deputies who investigate crimes against children will talk about local cases and the latest tricks and apps predators use to target kids . The FBI recently reported an increase in sextortion cases involving minors and teen suicides related to the scam . "Parents need to be involved and talk to their kids about the dangers online , " said FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Coult Markovsky . "We hope every parent will come to this important event . " Be Smart with your Kid’s Smartphone is free and open to the public , and you don ' t need to register . The event is not suitable for kids , so parents should use their discretion .
