When U . S . Army Special Forces go into dangerous situations , they ' re not alone . Tech . Sgt . Eric Flores from the 116th Air Support Operations Squadron said their job as Joint Terminal Attack Controllers ( JTAC ) or Tactical Air Control Party ( TACP ) is to work alongside the Army , no matter how they get there . In early February , a group of special operations airmen took part in Operation Sulaco , a refresher training that included parachuting and small team tactics at Fairchild Air Force Base . Flores emphasized the importance of training and building confidence , both in jumping out of planes and in tactical movements on the ground . Staff Sgt . Xazier Archuleta explained that the training included close air support and clearing objectives , preparing airmen for various combat scenarios . JTACs and TACP members serve as the crucial link between Army commanders and Air Force assets in combat . The training not only improves skills but also strengthens team bonding within the unit .
