AFFIRMATIVE ACTION OFFICER
The Town is accepting applications for an Affirmative Action Officer. This position is part of the Town’s Human Resources office, and reports to the Director of Human Resources.
Under the direction of the Town’s Director of Human Resources, the duties of the Affirmative Action Officer will include, but not be limited to:
- Act as the Town’s representative to the Town’s Affirmative Action Task Force (AATF), conducting monthly meetings and coordinating and overseeing all AATF initiatives and activities;
- As requested, compile and evaluate data about the composition of the Town’s workforce, especially regarding protected classes;
- Assist the HR Director with determining if persons in protected classes are underrepresented in particular departments and/or job categories, and develop strategies and goals for improving work force diversity in those areas;
- Coordinate and oversee the Town’s Annual Compliance Training program, comprised of annual mandatory training on sexual harassment and other types of harassment, as well as other mandatory annual training;
- Conduct outreach, recruitment, and training activities with protected class organizations, schools, and other organizations to educate individual groups and the public about the Civil Service system and how to secure a job in government, encourage participation in Civil Service examinations and offer strategies for successful test-taking, and publicize employment opportunities;
-Review, analyze, and update the Town’s Affirmative Action Plan;
- Work with employees and supervisors to promote career development and advancement opportunities for members of protected classes and all Town employees;
- Assist the Director of Human Resources with evaluating requests for reasonable accommodations, conducting Interactive Process meetings, securing equipment and/or arranging reasonable accommodations as appropriate, and maintaining confidential files relating to such requests and the Town’s responses;
- Receives and evaluates requests for other types of accommodations, and makes recommendations to the Director of Human Resources;
- Receives complaints and/or expressions of concern regarding potential violations of the Town’s Anti-Harassment/Discrimination Policy; reviews same with the Director of Human Resources; may, at the direction of the Director of Human Resources conduct investigations and prepare reports of findings and recommendations of appropriate corrective action, if necessary;
- May assist with administration and investigation of complaints under other Town policies, including but not limited to the Town’s Workplace Violence Prevention Program;
- May assist the Director of Human Resources with the administration and oversight of other HR-related matter, as requested and appropriate;
- Acts as the Director of Human Resources liaison to the Town’s Anti-Bias Task Force;
- Performs related duties as required.
The position requires certain specific knowledge and skill sets, including but not limited to: a working knowledge of Federal and State laws, rules, regulations, and policies governing affirmative action programs; basic knowledge of Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations; ability to establish satisfactory relationships and rapport with a variety of groups and individuals; ability to abstract, compile, and interpret information and data; ability to prepare narratives and statistical reports; ability to speak to groups and individuals to encourage and explain the program.
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
Four (4) years of experience in the field of equal employment opportunity, human rights, or affirmative action. Qualifying experience includes experience with community service organizations concerned with affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, civil rights, minority business development, or similar programs; experience in recruiting, training, and upgrading the educational and job qualifications of protected class members; and personnel administration or labor relations experience directly related to affirmative action. NOTE: Graduate and undergraduate credits may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 credit hours for each six months of experience, not to exceed two years of experience.
Annual Salary $75,000 with full benefits package
