☷USDA Invests Approximately $11 5 Million in Composting and Food Waste Reduction Projects in 23 States

The USDA is investing about $11 . 5 million in 38 cooperative agreements to help reduce and divert food waste from landfills . These agreements , funded by the American Rescue Plan Act , are part of the USDA ' s support for urban agriculture . The projects will be implemented between now and 2026 . The goal is to reduce food waste and greenhouse gas emissions , while also promoting food security at the community level . USDA prioritized projects that offer economic benefits , make compost easily accessible to farmers , and collaborate with multiple partners . The collaboration between NIFA and the Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production is part of USDA ' s efforts to transform the food system . Recipients of the funding include projects in 23 states , such as expanding composting services in Cleveland , improving waste management on a tribal reservation in Oregon , and supporting community composting efforts in Albuquerque .
