U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

In a more laid - back announcement today , the U . S . Department of Housing and Urban Development ( HUD ) revealed that they ' ve reached an agreement with Tennessee housing providers Alco Greenbriar Partners LP , Alco Properties , Inc . , and Alco Management , Inc . These providers will be compensating the aggrieved parties with $50 , 000 . The agreement resolves issues related to noncompliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 , the Americans with Disabilities Act , and the Violence Against Women Act . Under the Biden - Harris Administration , HUD Secretary Marcia L . Fudge emphasized their commitment to fighting housing discrimination and ensuring equal opportunities for all . The agreement was a result of a compliance review conducted by HUD for the Greenbriar Apartments in Tennessee . The property manages a bunch of apartment buildings in the Southeast . They get rental assistance from HUD for some of their units . After a review , it was found that they were denying requests for reasonable accommodations or modifications . They also didn ' t have accessible units for people with mobility , hearing , or vision impairments . There were also instances of noncompliance with VAWA involving two households who experienced sexual assault or domestic violence . The property agreed to make changes and pay compensation to resolve the issues . If you think you ' ve experienced housing discrimination , you can file a complaint with HUD . You can also learn more about your rights and responsibilities under VAWA on HUD ' s website . If you believe your VAWA rights have been violated , you can file a complaint there too . You can reach the government ' s fair housing department by either going to gov/fairhousing or calling ( 800 ) 669 - 9777 ( voice ) or ( 800 ) 877 - 8339 ( Federal Relay Service ) .
