U . S . - EU Trade and Technology Council Talent for Growth Task Force wraps up its work , private sector collaboration continues Export and investment promotion ANNOUNCEMENT Thursday , April 4 , 2024 Office of Public Affairs publicaffairs@doc . gov LEUVEN , Belgium – Today , U . S . Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and European Commission ( EC ) Executive Vice - President Margrethe Vestager concluded the final meeting of the U . S . - EU Trade and Technology Council ( TTC ) Talent for Growth Task Force , as announced in December 2022 . The Talent for Growth Task Force included fourteen members appointed in April 2023 from government and business leaders , labor , and training organizations . The aim of the Task Force was to build on each other ' s experiences and encourage innovative skills approaches in the private sector beyond the Task Force ' s term . "With the TTC , Executive Vice - President Vestager and I – along with our co - chairs – are helping to shape the technology landscape that will impact our global economic competitiveness and national security in both the U . S . and Europe . Today marks a significant milestone with the conclusion of the Talent for Growth Task Force , " said Secretary Raimondo . "Over the past year , this Task Force , comprised of leaders from various sectors , has placed workers at the forefront of our efforts to ensure technology benefits society . This Task Force wasn ' t just about producing a report; it was about creating an environment for us to learn from each other and from the best programs and systems in the U . S . and Europe . I believe we achieved that goal , and we will all reap the benefits of these efforts and research for years to come . " "Skills are crucial for our successful digital transition , and through the Talent for Growth Task Force , we have combined valuable experiences from Europe and the U . S . , " said Executive Vice - President Margrethe Vestager . "Technology presents immense opportunities if we utilize it effectively , including for and by the workforce . Our collaboration has allowed us to learn and identify best practices for developing talents and skills required for existing and emerging technologies and the potential they offer . " The establishment of the Task Force by the TTC acknowledges the challenges posed by the rapid advancement of technology , particularly AI , to our workers and companies . The TTC remains committed to equipping the workforces of the United States and the European Union with the necessary skills to meet the demands created by this rapid development . To meet this need , the Task Force focused on four main areas: training workers to meet business needs , promoting diversity in technical jobs , using skills - based hiring , and providing upskilling opportunities through credentials , including micro - credentials . The Task Force was led by Zoë Baird , Senior Counselor to Secretary Gina Raimondo for Technology and Economic Growth , and Stefan Olsson , Deputy Director General , EC Directorate - General for Employment , Social Affairs , and Inclusion . The Talent for Growth Task Force issued a statement from its members in the United States and EU , highlighting the work they have done to encourage businesses , labor , and training organizations to prioritize lifelong training for working - age populations . During today ' s meeting , Task Force members discussed how they are continuing this work through actions inspired by the Task Force . About the Task Force The U . S . - EU Trade and Technology Council ( TTC ) established the Talent for Growth Task Force on December 5 , 2022 , with the goal of creating middle - income careers for workers in both the U . S . and EU . The Task Force brought together government and private sector leaders from business , labor , and training organizations , building on existing initiatives on both sides of the Atlantic .
