☷Department of Labor investigation finds one of the nation s largest modular home manufacturers exposed workers to dozens of safety health risks

An investigation by the Department of Labor has found that one of the country ' s largest modular home manufacturers , Cavco Industries Inc . , exposed its workers to numerous safety and health risks . As a result , the company faces fines of $272 , 479 . This program specifically targets employers with high rates of injury . The inspection , which took place in October 2023 , revealed 25 serious violations and two other violations that were not considered serious . Cavco Industries has a history of safety and health violations , with a total of 38 citations since 2015 . The hazardous conditions identified during the inspection included lack of fall protection , improper use of ladders , and failure to maintain safe walking surfaces . Other violations included improperly inspected fire extinguishers , lack of welding screens , and no safe access to electrical shutoffs . In addition , Cavco Industries was cited for failing to maintain respiratory and hazard communication programs , not providing personal protective equipment , and failing to assess silica exposure . OSHA Area Director Monica Camacho in Austin , Texas , stated that these findings and the company ' s history of violations indicate a failure to prioritize worker safety . Cavco Industries , founded in 1965 , is based in Phoenix and operates manufacturing facilities in Arizona , California , North Carolina , and Texas . It serves customers in multiple states and has distribution points across the United States and Canada . The company has around 7 , 250 employees , with over 200 of them based in Austin . They also run Standard Casualty for insurance and CountryPlace Mortgage for financing .
