City Employee’s Recognition of Stroke Symptom Aids Caller
Speaking of community service , I am so proud to share a story with you: Recently , a long - time city employee , Therese Kain in the Engineering Department , was on a routine phone call with a resident when Therese suspected the caller ( who started having difficulty speaking ) might be having a stroke; Therese was able to determine the caller’s address and called 9 - 1 - 1 . Therese’s quick thinking was critical in getting immediate medical attention to the woman , who called back to our office this week with gratitude and to report that she’s doing ok now .
Do you know the signs of a stroke? Read about stroke symptoms from the

Curious About Electric Leaf Blowers? We Have Answers!
The City of Lafayette has passed a new law prohibiting the use of gas - powered leaf blowers , starting on July 1 . However many of your neighbors have already made the switch to electric! One of the ( many ) reasons for the growing popularity of electric leaf blowers is that they are much , much quieter . Another is that they don’t pollute , making them safe for people and animals to be around . And lastly , they can be better for your garden because most electric leaf blowers offer lower settings , which allows you to be gentle around your plants , and to retain a greater amount of the healthy topsoil and soil moisture .
To help you make the switch to an electric leaf blower , Lafayette residents can try a hand - blower , or a more powerful backpack blower ( the very same model that is used by City Staff around the Community Center! ) through our free lending program . Visit
www . lovelafayette . org/leaf - blowersto learn more . Additionally , several local hardware and landscaping equipment stores sell electric leaf blowers and are happy to discuss different models with you!
