Why older homes are losing coverage amid California’s insurance crisis - In 2023 , Farmers Insurance — part of California’s second largest homeowners insurance provider , Farmers Insurance Group — stopped offering and renewing insurance policies nationwide for apartments , townhomes and condominiums built before 1925 . The policy change , which the company says applies to “commercial” coverage , did not impact other Farmers Insurance Group affiliates or owner - occupied , single - family homes with Farmers Insurance . But experts say that other insurers could make similar moves , and some Californians say they are already getting sharp questions about the upkeep of aging homes . It’s the latest twist in the state’s broader insurance crisis , which has seen numerous insurers — including some Farmers affiliates — end or pull back their coverage in California . San Jose to fight developers using ‘builder’s remedy’ to downsize housing projects - This week , the city sent letters of rejection to developers who used the builder’s remedy after June 20 , including to some who tried to scale back previously approved housing projects , telling them that they will not proceed with their applications…Of the 29 plans submitted in the last year , nearly a third would downsize projects previously approved by the city , putting 4 , 177 previously - approved units on the chopping block . Cities , drivers have a year to figure out new California safety law banning parking near crosswalks - A new state law ,
AB 413 by Assemblyman Alex Lee[…] prohibits parking too close to crosswalks to improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians , a concept safety advocates call “daylighting . ” The law , effective this year , has a 12 - month grace period before violators get dinged with costly parking tickets . . . Marin transportation planners set traffic death goal: Zero - The Transportation Authority of Marin has approved a road safety plan that aims to eliminate all traffic - related fatalities and serious injuries in the county by 2050 . The agency is now asking the county and Marin’s cities to adopt the same document so planners will be better positioned to win grants designed to make traffic safety improvements .
