TAX COLLECTOR'S OFFICE
Position: Principal Clerk – Tax Collector's Office
Supervision
: Works under the general direction of the Collector/Treasurer.
Position Purpose:
This position provides moderately complex administrative support in the day-to-day office operations of the Tax Department. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control; performs all other related work as required.
Essential Functions:
Collects and posts tax payments, water payments, and other payments received. Processes payments at counter and through the mail.
Process all online iCloud payments, through the computer.
Balances all own daily deposits.
Organizes, files, and maintains customer records, ensuring control, integrity, and completeness of various files.
Receives and accounts for cash and/or check payments which are then posted to proper accounts.
Assists customers in person or by phone with any tax or miscellaneous question. Handles the more difficult customer service requests regarding tax questions.
Prepares extensive mailings and correspondence.
Completes customer requests for bill histories.
Types, files, and coordinates various manual and automated filing systems.
Answers telephones and directs calls, provides information to callers or route calls to appropriate offices and places outgoing calls.
Processes returns, bad checks, and online payments.
Marks or clears citizens for excise tax, registry.
Perform special projects and related duties as assigned.
Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Job Environment:
Work is performed under typical office conditions; the work environment is moderately noisy.
Operates a computer, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, and other standard office equipment.
Interacts with other town departments, citizens, the general public, and town officials.
Has access to department-related confidential and/or sensitive information including financial records, the disclosure of which would cause a significant breach of trust and seriously damage the reputation of the department.
Errors in judgment could result in department errors, lower standards of service to the community, monetary loss or legal repercussions and possible negative public relations for both the department and the Town.
Salary:
$45,545.47 - $57,629.85
Hours
: Monday - Friday; 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
