Treasurer's Office
Title: Payroll Principal Clerk
Performs administrative and professional duties to support the daily operations of the Treasurer’s Office with particular emphasis on Payroll Administration. Duties are varied and require knowledge of department operations, office systems and Town procedures and policies.
Responsible for all functions of municipal payroll. Maintains payroll records, input and verifications of weekly municipal payrolls, tax reports, and pension reporting for the Town and School Payroll. Processes checks through the MUNIS payroll system.
Creates weekly payroll warrant for the Town.
Enters manual payroll timesheets.
Finalizes and completes payroll warrant including printing all checks and direct deposits.
Generates all necessary reports as they relate to payroll.
Uploads files to bank to ensure funds are accounted for and accurate.
Uploads other files to other entities such as Middlesex Retirement System, Child Support, 457 Accounts, etc.
Verifies all deductions are being withdrawn appropriately with accuracy.
Verifies that all employees are being accurately paid and being paid in a timely manner according to Massachusetts Payroll laws.
Files and reports both Federal and State Taxes.
Keeps all employees accruals up-to-date.
Inputs all new hires and reports them to the Department of Revenue and Middlesex Retirement/OBRA.
Wires and transfer funds.
Conducts yearly review of employee action forms.
Performs monthly and quarterly balancing and reporting for year-end W-2’s.
Updates salary changes.
Maintains knowledge of Union contracts.
Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Processes retro payments as needed.
Qualifications
: Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business or other relevant discipline; Bachelor’s Degree helpful. Payroll processing experience; municipal experience preferred; three to five (3-5) years’ experience in a similar environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Salary
: $45,545 - $57,630 annually
Hours
: Monday -Friday; 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
