The
Reno Fire Departmentis spreading the word about the dangers of leaving up a Christmas tree too long after the holiday . Ahead of National Take Down Your Christmas Tree Day on January 6 , 2024 , the Reno Fire Department will conduct a live burn of a Christmas Tree on Thursday January 4 and can discuss importance of getting dried trees ( fuel ) out of the home .
The United States Fire Administration reports that 1 in every 34 reported home Christmas tree fires resulted in death . Many of these fires occur after Christmas is over and the tree is left inside the house for too long , causing the tree to dry . The Reno Fire Department offers these tips:
A dry tree will combust very rapidly once ignited . Because heated rooms dry out natural trees rapidly , it is time to get the tree out of the house .
Dispose of the tree properly . Trees can be taken to the following locations until January 7 for recycling . Visit
