   Summary:
    
   This position is responsible to perform a variety of routine and advanced legal support work for the Circuit Court.   Position may be cross-trained in multiple court case types (including Small Claims, Civil, Family Criminal and Traffic), and will require the application of independent judgment and the interpretation of policies and procedures based on training and knowledge gained through experience on the job. This position will assist in the administration of the standard operation policies and procedures of the Clerk of Courts per Statute 59.40 and 753.30. This position will be responsible to assist customers at the Clerk’s front counter handling a variety of court paperwork.  Attention to detail is required. There may be frequent contact with the Judge, Circuit Court Commissioner, outside agencies, the public, litigants, and attorneys at the counter, in the courtroom and on the telephone. Advice and assistance will normally be provided as needed by the Clerk of Court, but most functions will be performed with a minimum of checking or other supervision.
   Essential Functions of the Position:
   The following duties are illustrative.  The person holding this position may be required to perform other duties of a similar nature or otherwise related to the position.
   Responsible for comprehensive knowledge of Clerk of Court's responsibilities and role within the court and legal system in order to answer internal and external customer questions; ascertains the appropriate contact within the department or county, or refers to an outside source in an efficient,  professional manner.
   Cooperates with other sections of the Burnett County Court System and other agencies within and outside of Burnett County as warranted by the specifics of each individual case. 
   Adheres to all policies,  procedures, including accuracy of reporting and entering of judgments, including, but not limited to, judgments of conviction and civil judgments in accordance with  adhering to Wisconsin Statutes, "Local Rules" (as established by our Judges), and municipal laws; adherence to Model Recordkeeping procedures. 
   Maintenance of all judgments/lien records of plaintiff/defendant, index to all court actions by data entry in CCAP computer system, scheduling and sending notice of court events. 
   Submit dispositions to Wisconsin DOT for all traffic violations and any necessary suspensions/revocations as required. 
   Accurately receipts money collected for forfeiture/criminal proceedings for state, county, and municipal violations, and prepares all necessary documents including Court ordered paperwork.
   Assists in recording, maintaining, and  balancing bookkeeping records within the department, as well as receipting and tracking payments made to the court.  
   Prepares   warrants for individuals with outstanding overdue fines, fees, etc., based on the Clerk of Court’s policy for collection, and disposes of warrants when notified that the warrant was served or canceled.
   Prepares files for court proceedings:  collects and organizes paperwork for proper procedural flow;  including forwarding electronic filings that must be given attention to the Judge as necessary and renaming documents that are electronically filed so that they are descriptive for the Judge.
   Clerks courtroom hearings, trials or proceedings, take accurate court minutes/in-court processing, administers oaths; collect, mark, and record exhibits;  respectfully follow direction of Circuit Court judges.
   Assume primary responsibility of assigned division or area if so requested by the Clerk of Court, and serve as point person within the Clerk of Courts for cases and/or records within this area. 
   Participate as a team member of the Clerk of Court's Office to improve office efficiency and cooperatively solve problems.
   Fulfills the department's mission and purpose.

    Preferred qualifications: 
   Strong in-person customer service, organizational, analytical, and time management skills. 
   Considerable knowledge of computer systems including Windows, Word and Outlook with the ability to easily learn new systems. 
   Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, both as customers and co-workers. 
   Team oriented with a positive attitude. 
   Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time; some lifting and bending. 
   Ability to type 40+ WPM. 
   Willingness to be a team member who is skilled, efficient, flexible, motivated and willing to be there for the good of the team over and above personal preferences.
