POSITION SUMMARY:
The Part-time Lineman/Lineman I position performs manual labor tasks, mechanical work, and fuel and ancillary sales at West Woodward Airport.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Learns and applies rules and regulations related to airport operations.
Maintains excellent public relations with public and pilots.
Performs unskilled to semi-skilled manual labor.
Prepares work areas and sites by loading equipment, tools and materials required to perform the work assignment.
Drives and /or operates mowers, weed eaters, and tractors with brush beaters to perform tasks assigned.
Drives fuel trucks, towing vehicles (tugs), vehicles to clear snow and any others required for the duties assigned.
Washes and keeps clean the vehicles and machinery.
Fuels various types of aircraft.
Assists in pumping fuel into storage tanks and fuel trucks.
Safely tows aircraft into and out of hangars and congested ramp space.
Operates electronic equipment and computer point of sale systems required to transact sales related to fueling aircraft and retailing ancillary items to aviation.
Cleans and maintains the terminal, grounds surrounding the terminal, parking lot, and hangar including janitorial duties.
Monitors the aviation radio for local traffic, answers UNICOM calls, provides information requested, provides fuel, courtesy car availability and other related information.
Greets and parks all transit traffic and aircraft in need of fuel.
Checks transit aircraft and offers to wash windshield with or without fuel sales.
Determines need for maintenance and repair on vehicles and equipment, notifying the Airport Manager of deficiencies and/or maintenance and repair required.
Performs repairs and maintenance as assigned.
Performs other duties and assignments for other departments as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must have the following qualifications:
Knowledge and skill in using hand tools and equipment.
Knowledge of safety procedures in using equipment.
Ability to successfully accomplish assigned task after receiving instruction.
Ability to compute numbers and to read with comprehension.
Skill in following oral instructions.
Ability to work independently.
Understand and practice the City of Woodward Personnel Policy Manual.
Must have ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and carry out assignments with minimal direction.
Ability to read, understand and communicate fluently in the English language.
Ability to interact in a positive manner with the public and transit pilots.
Verbal perception, motor coordination, manual dexterity.
Ability to follow instructions, operate safely, and perform manual labor.
Must possess high school diploma or equivalent (this does not apply to students working at the airport).
Must possess a valid driver’s license, possess driving record acceptable to City’s insurance carrier, and possess necessary commercial driver’s license, if required.
Hours of part-time employees are limited to 29 per week; seasonal employees are limited to full weeks for three months.
Ability to pass background screening.
Ability to pass drug/alcohol screening.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must be able to meet the following working conditions and physical requirements:
Much of the work is performed outdoors in inclement weather and during all seasons.
Some work may be performed in confined areas, on slick and wet surfaces.
May be exposed to vibrations, loud continuous noise, offensive smells, dust, dirt and water.
Must possess skill or ability to learn operation of light truck, mowers, edgers, weed eater, compressors, and ability to use shovels, rakes, etc.
May be exposed to injury from moving equipment, insect bites, poison plants, flying objects, slippery surfaces, or hazardous materials.
Perform strenuous tasks.
Drive and operate vehicles.
Use small hand tools and equipment and operate equipment required to transact retail sales.
Determine need for and perform minor maintenance and repair on vehicles and equipment.
Must have strength to pull, lift, or push up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. on an infrequent basis; flexibility to bend, twist, reach; mobility to climb, crawl, walk; dexterity to operate machinery and tools on uneven surfaces; and stamina to exert self throughout the day in all weather conditions.
Will be subject to 24 hour call and conduct is expected to project dependability and assurance.
