POSITION SUMMARY:
The Aquatics Worker position performs non-exempt work assisting the Aquatics Foreman in the maintenance and repair of all irrigation systems in the City of Woodward, and the maintenance and operation of the Aquatics Center. Also assists with maintenance, landscaping, and upkeep of all City parks, cemetery, and other areas owned by the City of Woodward as needed.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Repairs landscape and golf irrigation systems.
Maintains irrigation controller programming.
Helps install new irrigation systems as needed.
Maintains pool chemicals and equipment safely.
Mows, weeds, trims, and picks up debris around City parks and cemetery.
Plants, waters, fertilizes, and applies herbicides safely; maintains trees, shrubbery, lawns, repairs fences, park equipment, park buildings as required.
Climbs and trims trees; operates loader, chipper, tractor, lawn mowing equipment; cleans restroom, park grounds when needed.
Picks up litter around trash containers and roadways.
Performs other duties as required and assists other departments as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must have the following qualifications:
Skill in following oral instructions.
Verbal perception, motor coordination, manual dexterity.
Ability to follow instructions, operate safely, and perform manual labor.
Ability to read, understand and communicate fluently in the English language.
Ability to use basic math and logic to efficiently program irrigation timing.
Willingness to attend irrigation and pool training.
Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and possess driving record acceptable to City’s insurance carrier.
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be willing to learn how to operate the Aquatics Center.
Must be able to pass background screening.
Must be able to pass drug/alcohol screening.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicant must be able to meet the following working conditions and physical requirements:
Much of the work is performed outdoors in inclement weather and during all seasons.
Some work may be performed in confined areas, on slick and wet surfaces.
May be exposed to vibrations, loud continuous noise, offensive smells, dust, dirt and water.
Will be required to work around human remains.
Ability to work with the public, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and carry out assignments with minimal direction.
Skill or ability to learn operation of backhoe, skid loader, tractor, bucket truck, mowers, edgers, weed eater, compressors, and ability to use shovels, rakes, etc.
Must have strength to pull, lift, and push 50 lb. objects on a frequent basis and up to 100 lb. on an infrequent basis: flexibility to bend, twist, reach; mobility to climb, crawl, walk; dexterity to operate machinery and tools on uneven surfaces, etc., and stamina to exert self throughout the day in all weather conditions.
