$14.00 per hour

Hours/Shift:
All open operational hours, including early morning, holidays and weekends
Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions
Responsible for following and carrying out all of the workplace expectations and policies of the City of Westlake and the Westlake Recreation Department
Supervise the activities of swimmers by enforcing rules and regulations
Warn swimmers of improper activities or hazards
Rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning when indicated and provide rescue breathing, CPR and First Aid
Notify the Supervisor of any accidents, rescues or problems
Report to the Aquatic Manager, Assistant Aquatic Manager and/or Pool Supervisor, any equipment in need of repair
Successfully and positively perform within work team dynamics
Attend scheduled in-service training
Maintain attendance and activity record and complete required reports
Assist in cleaning and maintaining the pool and related areas and facilities, including the locker rooms
Arrive to work every day, on time as scheduled
Regular and reliable attendance
Completes additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications and Skills
Must be currently certified with American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification or YMCA Lifesaving Certificate and current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/FPR cards
Must have knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and first aid, recognize hazardous situations and adopt effective courses of action. The lifeguard must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public
Proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques
Ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck
Tools and Equipment Used
Computer, phone, portable radio and various equipment used in an aquatic setting.

Occasionally required to climb or balance; bend over, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

ift and/or move 50 pounds or more
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
Duties require attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors
Work Environment

Noise level in the work environment may vary and the conditions can be wet
