The US acknowledged Uruguay ' s request for help with a supply of sterile flies and agreed to reevaluate the request and look at other options to implement the program as soon as possible . Lastly , they talked about finding innovative solutions to improve security conditions in the region . The US and Uruguay had their second Annual Bilateral Inter - Ministerial Dialogue in Washington on February 15 , 2024 . Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A . Nichols and a US delegation from six federal departments and agencies welcomed Foreign Minister Omar Paganini and the Uruguayan delegation to Washington , DC . They agreed that the US - Uruguay relationship is all about innovation and common purpose , and they see lots of opportunities ahead . They built on the meeting between President Biden and President Lacalle Pou in June 2023 and both sides confirmed their commitment to democratic governance , regional integration , inclusive economic growth , and expanding trade and investment in sustainable ways . They talked about how their economies work together to create jobs , improve living standards , and grow new industries . The US delegation praised Uruguay ' s impressive leadership in the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity , especially through the Uruguay Innovation Hub program , start - up accelerator , and green hydrogen . The Uruguayan delegation thanked the US for hosting the Americas Partnership Leaders ' Summit at the White House and talked about their efforts to lead an angel investor network . They also mentioned that Uruguay signed the Artemis Accords and the US agreed to support Uruguay in exploring civilian and commercial space industries . Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation as a way to promote economic development , environmental protection , and scientific exchange in the Atlantic region . They decided to work together more closely on fighting crime and drug trafficking , including through training programs and drug treatment . They also talked about the importance of getting regional support for the Multinational Security Support Mission to Haiti . The U . S . and Uruguayan delegations updated their agreement for the Fulbright Program and signed a statement for Uruguay to join the Global Entry Program . The U . S . recognized Uruguay ' s leadership on the world stage , including its stance on Russia ' s actions in Ukraine and support for democracy in Venezuela . Both sides agreed to keep collaborating at all levels . Uruguay invited the U . S . to their next meeting in 2025 .
