For the third time in his tenure as Dale District Supervisor , Jim Holland has been elected by his peers to serve as chair of the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors through the end of 2024 .
   Re - elected to a fifth four - year term on the county’s governing body in November , Holland brings considerable institutional knowledge as one of the longest - serving supervisors in Chesterfield history .
   “You have been a pillar in the community and I appreciate your leadership , ” said Midlothian District Supervisor Mark Miller , who nominated Holland as chair during the board’s annual organizational meeting Wednesday .
   Holland previously served as chair of the Board of Supervisors in 2014 and 2021 , and as vice chair in 2010 and 2022 .  
   “I want to say thank you to my colleagues for your vote and your support . I’m humbled , honored and thankful for the opportunity to lead and serve this wonderful community , ” he said . “As I said 16 years ago , we’re on a journey toward excellence , to be the very best we can be – to be a model of what is expected from local government .
   “I thank my family , my gracious wife , my friends and everyone who has helped us get to this point tonight , ” he added .
   Miller , who was elected in November to his first full term in office , was chosen by his fellow board members to serve as vice chair this year . He won a special election in November 2022 to represent the Midlothian District through the end of 2023 .  
   Wednesday’s board meeting was the first for new Clover Hill District Supervisor Jessica Schneider . She was elected in November and took office Jan . 1 .
   Also Wednesday , the Board of Supervisors
   approved its meeting datesand procedures for 2024 . The board will convene for its first work session and business meeting of the new year on Wednesday , Jan . 24 beginning at 2 p . m .
