The City of Yuma will hold primary and general elections in 2024 , and those seeking office now have access to the forms and information to run for office .
   The City ' s primary election is currently scheduled for Aug . 6 , when voters will nominate and/or elect candidates for three seats on the City Council and one seat for Municipal Court Judge . Candidates may be elected to office in the primary if they receive votes constituting a majority of all the ballots cast .
   The general election date is Nov . 5 , when voters will decide which candidates should fill the remaining openings .
   Those elected to these positions would each serve a four - year term beginning Jan . 1 , 2025 .
   Candidate handbooks are available
   onlineor from the City Clerk’s office , located on the first floor of Yuma City Hall , One City Plaza .
   The candidate handbook includes information regarding qualifications for office , the number of valid signatures required , financial disclosure statements and political action committees .
   The first day for candidates to file nomination petitions is March 8 , and the deadline to file is no later than 5 p . m . Monday , April 8 . All documents need to be filed at the City Clerk’s office by the noted deadline .
   City of Yuma elections are nonpartisan; no affiliations to political parties are disclosed . Council candidates are not bound to specific districts or precincts; seats are elected at large . Candidates for City office must reside within Yuma city limits .
