City Projects
North End pavement replacement project
A contractor working for the City will remove and replace street pavement , water lines , and ADA - standard sidewalk ramps on various streets in northern Yuma , roughly between Avenue A and 4th Avenue . Reconstruction work will take place on east - west roadways Colorado Street and 2nd Street , and on north - south roadways including 5th , 6th , 7th , 8th , 9th and 10th avenues . Local streets will be closed to through traffic , but access will be maintained for residents who live in the closed section . Detours will be available via 1st Street and 3rd Street . This project is expected to conclude in summer 2024 .
25th Street , 5th Avenue to 8th Avenue
A contractor working for the City is installing new water lines from 24th Street to 25th Street between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue . 25
Street is closed to through traffic between 8th
and 4th avenues , and local traffic only is permitted on 5th Avenue , 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue between 24th Street and 25th Street .
Avenue 5E , 37th Street to 40th Street
A contractor working for the City is installing water and sewer lines on Avenue 5E between 37th Street and 40th Street , plus new fire hydrants and new service connections , followed by pavement replacement . Avenue 5E will be closed to through traffic between 32nd Street and 40th Street , and to all traffic between 37th Street and 40th Street . Detour using Avenue 4E or Avenue 6E . This project is expected to be complete in early spring .

Motorists are advised to avoid wet paint and traffic cones in streets .

Other utility projects and encroachment permits
Avenue A , Parkview to 28th Street ( Yuma County )
A contractor working for Yuma County is working on the Smucker Park flood control basin , which will at times affect Avenue A between Parkview Loop and 28th Street . The sidewalk on the west side of Avenue A is closed . Motorists on Avenue A should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the roadway on the north side of the park . Later phases of work will include lane restrictions on Avenue A and a closure at Westridge , currently anticipated for early 2024 . Message boards will be activated 72 hours prior to any such closure .
Currently , the southbound lane of Avenue A has been shifted to the center turn lane at 28th Street due to storm damage . Motorists expecting to turn left on 28th Street from southbound Avenue A are advised to detour using 24th Street and 8th Avenue .
Fiber optic installations ( Allo )
Communications line installations will take place in areas designated for utility easements within the City limits and surrounding vicinity in the following areas:
Arizona Avenue , 16th Street to 24th Street .
16th Street and 1st Avenue .
Avenue B north of 16th Street .
1st Avenue , 22nd Place to 27th Place .
14th Avenue and 15th Street .
28th Street and Avenue 2 - 1/2E .
4000 block of Charro Lane .
Area between Avenue B and 15th Avenue , from West Main Canal to 8th Street .

32nd Street and Avenue 5E .

Through late January , Southwest Gas crews will replace gas lines for construction at Midpointe Plaza at 32nd Street and Avenue 8E . Work will prompt outside lane closures .
4th Avenue south of 40th Street ( APS )
Conductor line removal and replacement will cause lane closures and traffic directed by flaggers on 4th Avenue and Airport Loop south of 40th Street between Jan . 8 , 2024 and Feb . 3 , 2024 .
Avenue 2 - 1/2E , Palo Verde Street ( Century Link )
From early December through mid - January , telephone cable repair work will prompt lane closures of Avenue 2 - 1/2E from Palo Verde Street to just north of Ironwood Court .
24th Street , 21st Drive ( Spectrum )
Line work requiring a trench will lead to lane narrowing on eastbound 24th Street at 21st Drive . Work could start in mid - December and should be complete in mid - January .
Avenue A , Palmcroft Drive ( Century Link )
Beginning Dec . 18 , Century Link crews will access utility hole to replace fiber cable along Avenue A and Palmcroft Drive . Work is anticipated to be completed by mid - March .
31st Street , 28th Drive ( GCE )
Manhole repair will prompt a closure in the intersection of 31st Street and 28th Drive , allowing only northbound traffic on 28th Drive through Feb . 9 .
Avenue 8 - 1/2E , 32nd Street to County 11 - 1/2 Street ( SW Gas )
Gas line replacement work will require a closure of Avenue 8 - 1/2E between 32nd Street and County 11 - 1/2 Street from 6 a . m . to 4 p . m . Jan . 16 through Jan . 26 .
16th Street , Arizona Avenue A ( Century Link )
Beginning Jan . 22 , Century Link will replace cable along 16th and Arizona Avenue , resulting in single lane closures . Work is expected to be complete by late February .
Avenue 3E , County 14 - 15 streets ( Yuma County )
Bridge repair work on Jan . 25 will prompt a closure of Avenue 3E between County 14th and 15th streets . Detour using Avenue 4E .
