Hey y ' all , check this out! So , Jeremiah Micah Deare and Sarah Elaine Fogle got sentenced yesterday for some federal firearms charges . They were convicted back in November 2023 after a long trial . Basically , they were caught dealing firearms without a license , making false statements , and not doing background checks for their unlicensed gun business in Lafayette . Judge James D . Cain , Jr . sentenced them like this: Jeremiah Micah Deare got 97 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release , while Sarah Elaine Fogle got 60 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release . During the trial , they found out that Deare was the owner of Dave ' s Gunshop , LLC and was responsible for the Federal Firearms License . But get this , neither Deare nor Fogle had a license individually . Witnesses at the trial spilled the beans that they were selling loads of guns illegally from their house and at gun shows . They didn ' t bother with background checks like they were supposed to . The cops even seized 246 firearms from their place , and they ' re trying to take away 619 more that were involved in their illegal activities . Here ' s the kicker , back in August 2019 , the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives did an inspection at Dave ' s . Then , in September , Deare and Fogle got a warning in Baton Rouge for all the violations they were doing . They were failing to fill out forms , keeping bad records , transferring guns without proper checks , and messing up on forms . The ATF investigator even gave Deare a form to sign , saying he understood the laws and regulations . But clearly , they didn ' t care . Deare and Fogle were warned , but they still went ahead and started buying and selling firearms without a license . They didn ' t bother keeping records or conducting background checks as required by law . They got their hands on a lot of guns and ammo from estate sales and other sources , but they didn ' t keep track of them in Dave ' s book . Instead , they took the firearms to gun shows and sold them without background checks , even though they weren ' t licensed to do so . Because of this , they sold guns to people who shouldn ' t have had them . They also broke the law by selling firearms at gun shows outside of Louisiana without the proper licensing . U . S . Attorney Brandon B . Brown said that regulating firearm sales is important , and the ATF tried to advise the defendants about their actions , but they ignored the warnings and continued their illegal activities . Now , they have been held accountable by the court . ATF Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson said that these defendants are contributing to the problem of violent crime by selling guns to people who aren ' t allowed to have them . Their actions show a complete disregard for federal laws and the responsibilities that come with possessing a federal firearms license . The sentence they received should send a message that individuals like them will be held accountable , as keeping our neighborhoods safe is a top priority for the ATF . The ATF conducted the investigation , and Assistant United States Attorneys Lauren L . Gardner and Myers P . Namie handled the prosecution .
