Summary:
The CIT/TTAC Director is based at the Beverly Police Department and serves in a dual role coordinating training for law enforcement best practices in response to mental health calls for service as well as providing direct clinical consultation and services. This position is funded by an annual state grant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following; other duties may be assigned
Provide clinical coordination and facilitation of 6 Crisis Intervention Team trainings per year for police departments in Essex County, including identifying and scheduling qualified police and clinical presenters and developing curriculum to;
Provide community-based clinical consultations to adults, children and families in Essex County who come into police contact due to underlying behavioral health conditions, including assessment, stabilization and support, as well as connection to appropriate resources and services, in order to prevent or reduce future crises and criminal justice involvement;
Provide clinical consultation services to Essex County police departments;
Work with Beverly Police Department, NAMI Massachusetts, and other partners to provide technical assistance to Essex County police departments around implementation of CIT and improved responses to crisis mental health calls for service;
Collaborate with staff at other state CIT-TTACS in order to promote consistency and quality of CIT trainings and technical support;
Establish and meet regularly with CIT/TTAC steering committee;
Develop an agenda for the committee and address the issues raised by the community concerning crisis intervention responses and programming;
Developing, organizing and presenting CIT trainings;
Take shared responsibility with the CIT/TTAC Law Enforcement Co-Director for organizing and presenting output and outcome data to police leadership and the Community Steering Committee;
Develop and maintain Essex County CIT Steering Committee
Oversee and support in collaboration with the contracted vendor the Beverly Police Department Jail Diversion Program which serves 6 Essex County communities;
Beverly, Essex, Gloucester, Ipswich, Manchester by the Sea and Rockport
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Masters level clinical degree preferred or any equivalent combination of education and experience in Psychology, Mental Health or Social Work
Training in crisis risk assessment and evaluation
Mental Health First Aid for Public Safety Trainer
Trained as a CISM/GRIN clinician
EXPERIENCE
Experienced as a facilitator of practical trainings for law enforcement including CIT and MHFA for Public Safety;
Experience as a facilitator of trainings for adult learners;
Experience as a facilitator of trainings in crisis intervention, forensic mental health, or jail diversion program clinician;
Demonstrated experience and training in assessing, diagnosing, treating and evaluating adults, children and families in crisis;
Must possess excellent assessment and intervention skills
Demonstrated experience working with diverse systems and various client populations;
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in trauma-informed responses to mental health crises;
Knowledge of MA laws relevant to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use crises;
Knowledge of MA laws relevant to police-response to individuals in crisis;
Must possess superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere;
Must adhere to professional principles and codes of ethics;
Must communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
Must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel for work
