Albany County New York - County Executive McCoy County Legislature and Comptroller Rizzo Announce Award of ARPA Funds for Work Force Development 16 February 2024 ( news )

Albany County Executive Daniel P . McCoy , the Albany County Legislature and Albany County Comptroller Susan Rizzo announced the award of $2 , 201 , 500 in American Rescue Plan Act ( ARPA ) grant funding to 15 organizations providing training in Albany County . This represents the second major round of ARPA awards to be released to the community by Albany County , with individual awards ranging from $50 , 000 up to $300 , 000 . This represents the biggest investment to date by Albany County in workforce development . It will result in hundreds of new training opportunities in the County that will help meet the needs of high demand industries like health care and manufacturing .
These opportunities range from; addressing the diversity in the tech industry by providing training and mentorship opportunities , to supporting unemployed/underemployed County residents who live in poverty , as well as supporting Youth Workforce Development Programs .
“These projects will help ensure the availability of skilled professionals in several important industries in the County , with a particular focus on the high demand for healthcare workers , ”
said Albany County Executive McCoy
. “We recognized the needs of our community and acted to ensure that our residents have the skills they need to secure meaningful employment in this ever - changing labor market . ”
“I’m thrilled to celebrate this important grant funding that will play a major role in developing our Capital Region’s workforce of the future . With increasing demand for workers in critical emerging fields like healthcare and high - tech manufacturing , programs like these are essential to our efforts to provide the training Capital Region residents need to take advantage of these good - paying job opportunities . I’m grateful to County Executive McCoy , Comptroller Rizzo , and the entire Albany County Legislature for identifying this need and taking action to meet it , and I’m proud to have cast my vote for the American Rescue Plan Act that brought this funding to our district . More resources allocated for educational trainings and mentorship programs means Albany County residents , including those from historically disenfranchised communities will be better equipped for success . Through partners like the Capital Region BOCES , who are receiving $300 , 000 in order to train adults in the skills they need to fill high - demand positions in the medical field , Albany County continues to prioritize strengthening our work force and investing in economic development measures . Bravo to these organizations , to the County and also to President Biden and the Congress for the federal funding that makes this possible , ”

The applications were reviewed by the County ARPA Economic Development Subcommittee and their recommendations were submitted to the bipartisan ARPA Executive Committee for final recommendation to the full County Legislature . The Executive Committee includes the County Executive Daniel McCoy , Chairwoman Joanne Cunningham , Majority Leader Dennis Feeney , Comptroller Susan Rizzo , Legislative Black Caucus Chairman William Clay , County Legislature Minority Leader Frank Mauriello and County Dept . of Management & Budget Commissioner David Reilly .

ARPA funds must be obligated no later than December 31 , 2024 , and fully expended by December 31 , 2026 . Funds that are not fully spent by December 31 , 2026 are required to be returned to the United States Treasury .
