Sausalito Un - City Council Unanimously Approves Revised Ferry Landing Design 09 February 2024 ( news )

At a public hearing on
February 6 , the City Council unanimously approved a
revised designfor the
Sausalito Ferry Landingthat was developed by a team of local architects and designers ( a . k . a . the Local Professionals Group or LPG ) at the direction of the Council .
The approved design includes significant changes to the plaza , walkways , and queuing areas as compared to the current configuration and an alternative design approved by the Planning Commission in November 2023 .
Elements of the approved design include an expanded plaza area along the waterfront , new trees to screen the plaza from the parking lot , a crosswalk to accommodate bicycle queuing on a widened pathway that crosses the entrance to the Sausalito Yacht Club parking lot , and a bicycle parking area adjacent to Humboldt Avenue .
The project has funding of $2 . 0 million from the Federal Transit Administration , $400 , 000 from the Golden Gate Bridge , Highway , and Transportation District , and $100 , 000 from the City of Sausalito .
At the direction of the Council , City staff will initiate the following next steps:
Develop construction - level drawings of the phases that can be funded by the grant .
Obtain professional cost estimates for the various components of the project .
Identify phases of the plan that can be built within the project ' s $2 . 5 million budget .
Solicit private and public sources of additional funding to construct phases that are outside the scope of the existing budget .
Return to the Council within 45 days with a phasing plan for the project .
