Sausalito Un - City Council Advances Downtown Business Improvement District 08 March 2024 ( news )

At its meeting on March 5 , the City Council endorsed a draft plan to create a
Property Business Improvement District
( PBID ) to enhance the beauty of downtown Sausalito and encourage visitors to downtown businesses .
Final approval of the PBID will require a majority vote of commercial property owners in the downtown area according to the assessed value of their property . If approved , approximately $250 , 000 per year over the next five years would be raised from the property owners to be used for special events , marketing and promotion , and beautification projects for the downtown area .
In endorsing the
Draft Management District Plan
with minor modifications , the Council directed City Manager Chris Zapata to begin a petition process to garner enough support from downtown property owners to initiate a formal ballot . The Council also authorized Zapata to sign the petition based on City - owned downtown properties , exercising up to 40% of the City ' s total voting power .
