The City of Delaware’s second annual community event to celebrate Black History Month is Feb . 24 from 3 - 5 pm at SourcePoint , 800 Cheshire Road , Delaware .
This year’s theme is “African Americans and the Arts . ” Guests will hear from keynote speaker Dr . Jason Rawls , an educator with over two decades of teaching experience and a leader of the Hip - Hop education movement . Dr . Rawls is an Assistant Professor of Hip Hop at The Ohio State University and is leading the team creating the first Hip Hop Studies program in a School of Music at a research university in the United States . An author and music producer , Dr . Rawls has worked with artists like Mos Def , Talib Kweli , Domo Genesis ( Odd Future ) , Capital Steez ( Pro Era ) , Beastie Boys , Del tha Funky Homosapien , Aloe Blacc and more .
Also at the celebration , acclaimed visual artist Lance Johnson will incorporate an interactive artistic component into the program with a live painting . Johnson is a Columbus - based mixed media artist . Originally from the Bronx , Johnson uses his experience of the vibrant urban landscape in his works to connect people from all walks of life .
