Meet Minnetonka ' s newest police officers - Joey Chaffin and Eliana Welbes , who joined the department Jan . 2 .
Officer Joey Chaffin
Minnetonka Police Officer Joey Chaffin followed his family into law enforcement . "I got into law enforcement because of my dad and older brother , " said Chaffin , noting his brother is currently a police officer with another metro agency .
Prior to coming to Minnetonka , Chaffin served in the military and also worked for the Carver County Sheriff’s Office for three years . "I chose Minnetonka because I had heard so many great things about the culture here and the support from the community , " he said .

Officer Eliana Welbes
Officer Eliana Welbes is no stranger to the western metro . She joined the Minnetonka department from Hopkins where she spent five years working as a patrol officer and detective . She also had roles as a school resource officer , crisis negotiator and public information officer .
"I enjoy problem solving and the camaraderie with colleagues and am also drawn to the purpose that’s central to law enforcement , providing public safety and serving the community , " Welbes said . "[As a Minnetonka officer] , I’m excited to be working for an innovative department , that has many opportunities and a great department culture . "
