The City of Lancaster is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Operator for the Water Department. This is a technical position tending and operating water plant equipment that controls, purifies and clarifies water for human consumption and industrial use. The plant operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the City of Lancaster Water Department Treatment Plant performing a wide range of procedures. This position is often performed alone at all shifts to provide 24-hour coverage every day of the year.
Controls flow or raw water into the plant by starting and regulating operation of electrical motors, pumps and valves.
Adds chemicals to water or adjust automatic devices, which admit chemicals in controlled dosages and starts agitators to mix ingredients.
Pumps purified water into water mains for distribution for industrial, commercial and residential use. Monitors control panel.
Takes water samples and performs lab analysis as required. Prepares operations and report sheets. Closes plant down, restores and restarts plant in case of severe storms or electrical failures.
Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License. Must be eligible for the City’s Liability Policy to operate City equipment and vehicles.
Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and driving record check.
