Update ( 1/26/2024 8:25pm ) :
The person who was detained at the scene has been identified as Wesley Shamar Higgins , 23 , of Chapel Hill . Higgins was arrested and charged with the following:
Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
Discharge weapon into occupied property
Discharge firearm in city limits
Assault by pointing a gun ( two counts )
Higgins is being held at the Orange County Detention Center under a $100 , 000 bond . His first appearance in court is scheduled for Monday at 2pm .
The victim was treated and released from the hospital . No additional information is available at this time .

At 2:47pm , the Chapel Hill Police Department responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of East Franklin Street . One victim was transported to UNC Hospitals with injuries that appear to be non - life threatening . Another person was detained at the scene . No additional information is available at this time .
