The spokesperson ' s office released a fact sheet on the current state of U . S . relations with Argentina . Secretary of State Antony J . Blinken will be visiting Buenos Aires on February 23 , 2024 , to meet with President Javier Milei . The purpose of the visit is to strengthen cooperation on trade , critical minerals , human rights , and security . The United States and Argentina have a bilateral relationship based on strong economic ties and shared interests such as democracy , human rights , counterterrorism , and improving citizen security . In 2023 , the two countries celebrated 200 years of diplomatic relations . A U . S . Presidential Delegation led by Energy Secretary Granholm attended President Milei ' s inauguration in December 2023 , further solidifying the relationship . Last year , high - level dialogues on human rights and labor rights strengthened alignment on these shared values . The Argentina Declassification Project , a significant release of government records related to human rights abuses , demonstrated the U . S . government ' s commitment to transparency and accountability . The United States is the largest foreign investor in Argentina , with around $12 . 6 billion in foreign direct investment in 2022 . The U . S . also supports sustainable growth in Argentina through its participation in international financial institutions . In August 2021 , the U . S . Embassy in Buenos Aires launched the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs ( AWE ) to support Argentine women entrepreneurs . Science cooperation between the U . S . and Argentina , particularly with NASA , remains strong . Argentina recently joined the Artemis Accords , a multilateral agreement on peaceful space cooperation . The United States and Argentina work together on various initiatives , including providing technical assistance on critical minerals and renewable energy , as well as collaborating on security and economic revitalization efforts . The two countries also engage in educational and cultural exchanges , as well as combatting the climate crisis . Argentina is committed to reducing emissions and increasing renewable energy targets . Additionally , Argentina is involved in the Cities Forward Initiative and the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation . The 38 - country partnership allows coastal states along the Atlantic to work together on shared challenges , promoting a peaceful , stable , prosperous , and cooperative region . It also aims to protect and sustain the Atlantic ' s resources , while fostering cultural exchanges and addressing economic and environmental concerns .
