If you missed Las Cruces Utilities ( LCU ) seeking takers of their annual survey at the Farmer’s Market downtown last weekend , you’re in luck - the survey will be hitting a mailbox near you soon , and it’s available online now .
“The Annual LCU Survey is a tool we use to measure what we might need to clarify for the public , ” said LCU Director Delilah Walsh . “Part of our mission is to educate the public about the services included in the rates they pay , like how the grappler that comes once a month is different from the Green Grappler that picks up yard waste in clear bags . ”
Public engagement is part of the 12 - question survey , which highlights how customers can monitor the usage of two utility services through a free online portal called UtilityHawk .
The survey also asks about residents’ confidence in drinking water quality and whether cleaned water from Jacob Hands Wastewater Treatment Facility is sent safely back into the environment .
There’s also a trickier question about when you should have your trash bin out: Is it the day before by 6 p . m . or the day of your scheduled pick - up by 6 a . m . ? Should the container be placed on your curb or on the street? ( Hint: The arms of the trash truck - - which tends to head out early every morning - - might be damaged in one scenario . )
Other questions include: What telephone number do you call if you smell natural gas inside or outside of your home? ( Hint: It ' s the number for LCU Dispatch! ) And , what simple three numbers do you call if you want to dig in the ground and don’t want to disrupt underground utilities? ( Hint: It ' s not 911! )
“The questions also help us slide in information about how locates for underground lines are free and again whether LCU is or is not funded by tax dollars , ” said Walsh . “Plus , we can get a sense if our general reminders need to be more focused or if our customers know what our goals are - which is to provide clean water , safe natural gas , and keeping our city sanitary by removing solid waste and wastewater . ”
For anyone who missed the face - to - face surveys , look for it as an insert in an upcoming Utilities bill . The survey can be mailed in or dropped off at one of the two Customer Central locations: at City Hall or the East Mesa Customer Central location at 5195 Bataan Memorial West . The survey is also available online , in both English and Spanish:
