For people in search of affordable health services , some types of care would be hard to come by if not for the County’s Health Services Clinic , part of the Department of Public Health .
“We provide preventative care that can be lifesaving . For instance , immunizations prevent the spread of some pretty terrible illnesses , like measles , ” says Health Services Director Samantha VanNatta . “Having low - cost services for children and adults who qualify is a huge benefit to our community . ”
Residents in western St . Charles County now have the benefit of a clinic closer to home after Health Services recently opened its second location at 600 Medical Drive , Suite 216A in Wentzville . The primary Health Services Clinic is at 1650 Boone ' s Lick Road in St . Charles .
“Our clinic on the east side of the county was a long drive for clients in the Wentzville area , so we recognized the need for a closer location to provide easier access to care , ” VanNatta says .
Over 20 , 000 clinic visitors each year receive preventive care at little to no cost , including heart health checks , nutrition assistance , and testing and treatment for communicable diseases . Sexually transmitted infections are also a priority . That’s important , considering Missouri has one of the highest STI rates in the U . S . , according to CDC data .
“There are not a lot of options for STI testing in this county at a reasonable price , ” VanNatta says . “The work for testing and treatment we provide is vital to prevent outbreaks . ”
The clinics’ services also include the Women , Infants and Children ( WIC ) supplemental nutrition program . WIC provides food assistance , nutrition education and health consultations to qualifying families of young children who would otherwise struggle .
Another program , the Travel Health Clinic , identifies specific health precautions based on a person’s travel destination—and can also help clients apply for a U . S . passport!
