The Public Works Department is made up of various sub - departments including Fleet , Line Repair , Streets/Stormwater and Traffic , Wastewater , and Water . Each week , over 100 employees are responsible for the maintenance , monitoring , and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains , sewers , and water production .
Below are some tips and projects they are working on:
City’s Fire Marshal’s Office Provided Fire Extinguisher Training to Line Repair Department
To keep up to date with fire safety , the City’s Fire Marshal’s Office provided fire extinguisher training to the Line Repair Department . Crews were trained on how to put out/control potential workplace fires until professional help arrives . Also , they touched on proper inspection and record keeping for fire extinguishers , which are located in each unit . Our employees participated in a hands - on exercise using a fire extinguisher to put out a fire , using the P . A . S . S . acronym Pull , Aim , Squeeze and Sweep . A big thank you to the Fire Marshal’s Office for your support on this training .
Clearing Right of Ways of Fallen Trees after High Wind Events
League City has many miles of fence lines and easements that are out of view of the frequently traveling public . The Public Works Streets , Stormwater , and Traffic Divisions along with our Arborist work together to identify weak trees in our right of ways before they become a hazard , but they are not always visible . The continuous changing temperature of winter brings strong winds into the Gulf Coast Area . The strong winds expose trees unseen weaknesses such as damaged roots or interior limb decay . The League City Vegetation Management Division has been out cleaning up fallen trees in the ditch lines that have fallen due to the recent windy days . When the trees do fall unexpectedly , we respond as quickly to remove the trees , clean up the site , and restore it to its previous condition . We assess the area for any other hazards and remove them as needed to keep the city right of ways safe for everyone .
