On Sunday , January 21 , 2024 , at approximately 10:46 PM , the Mount Prospect Police Department responded to the Shell Gas Station at 1200 North River Road for a report of a person with a gunshot wound . Upon arrival , officers located a male with a non - life - threatening gunshot wound to his leg . The victim was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital to be treated for his injury .
Officers learned that prior to being shot , the victim had been following two vehicles that had been driving recklessly in the area of River Road and Golf Road in Des Plaines and was in the process of reporting their driving behavior to 911 . The victim witnessed the one vehicle , a gray Kia hatchback , lose control and crash near the intersection of Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Lane . The victim reported seeing two male subjects wearing all black clothing “bail out” of the crashed Kia and get into the other vehicle , a gray Kia SUV . As the victim drove around the block , he was driving eastbound on Camp McDonald Road when he observed the Kia SUV driving directly towards the front of his vehicle . The victim stated someone in the vehicle fired a gun in his direction as they drove past .
The victim realized he had been shot and drove to the gas station at 1200 N . River Road , where he went in to get help in the store . Crime Scene Technicians collected a shell casing and other evidence from the scene and will be sending it to the forensic lab for analysis .
Upon conducting a records check on the gray Kia hatchback , it was found to be reported stolen . The offenders are described as males wearing all black clothing . It was also determined that the Kia getaway vehicle was also reported stolen .
The Mount Prospect Police Department continues to investigate this incident and request anyone with information or video footage that might assist with this investigation should contact the Investigations Section at 847 - 870 - 5654 .
