At a Special Village Board Meeting on January 9 , the Village Board approved an ordinance regulating and discouraging unscheduled migrant drop - offs within Mount Prospect ' s borders . This is following a recent increase of unscheduled drop - offs of migrant groups in the Northwest suburbs . These are happening at all hours , and typically without notice , due to an ordinance passed by the City of Chicago that restricts the drop - off of inbound migrants to a specified landing zone with very limited hours and capacity .
These groups , which often include families and children , are being dropped in unfamiliar surroundings where they may not speak the language and have very little resources at their disposal . Ultimately , the goal of this ordinance is to have a plan in place to get migrants safely to their destination in Chicago while protecting the interests of the residents and businesses in Mount Prospect .
