☷OMB Gang Member Sentenced on Firearms Trafficking and Fentanyl Distribution Charges to 276 Months in Federal Prison

A 20 - year - old man from Des Moines , Armani Eugene Gates , was sentenced to 276 months in federal prison for his involvement in firearms straw purchasing and trafficking , as well as distributing fentanyl . Gates , a member of the OMB gang , arranged for the illegal acquisition of firearms through straw purchasers and sold them to other gang members and associates . Some of the guns recovered were used in gang - related shootings , and Gates also led efforts to distribute over 3 . 5 kilograms of fentanyl . During a federal search in July 2023 , fentanyl pills , firearms , and cash were seized , leading to Gates ' arrest . After serving his prison term , Gates will have to serve five years of supervised release . Des Moines Police Chief Dana D . Wingert emphasized the impact of successful investigations like this on reducing violent crime in Central Iowa . ATF Kansas City Field Division Special Agent in Charge Bernard Hansen highlighted the importance of legislation like the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in combating illegal firearms trafficking . The ATF ' s NIBIN technology has been a huge help for law enforcement in our efforts to reduce violent crime .
