Fairfield California - Lopes Road update City Council to approve design consultant 31 January 2024 ( news )

In mid - March 2023 , the hillside west of Lopes Road became saturated from the winter rainstorms , causing a failure in Lopes Road that broke the City of Benicia’s water supply line and other underground utilities . Since then , both cities have been working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA ) and California Office of Emergency Services ( Cal - OES ) to receive financial support through public assistance grants . Additionally , both cities will work together to ensure that restoration is completed most efficiently and cost - effectively .
Pre - design work in soil investigations , local permitting , and identification of specific environmental and historic preservation requirements have begun before selecting a consultant to complete design efforts for the permanent restoration of Lopes Road . The work includes restoration of the hillside , road improvements , and underground utilities . On February 6 , the City Council is scheduled to approve the selection and award of a design services contract to complete the work .
The City of Benicia and Fairfield continue to work with CalOES and FEMA to ensure that both cities remain eligible to receive reimbursement from the State and Federal agencies .
