   The Livermore Community is invited to read the Pulitzer Prize finalist , PEN/Hemingway Award winner , and National Book Critics Circle Award winner
   There There
   by Tommy Orange , as the featured book for the 18th Livermore Reads Together , reading program sponsored by the
   Friends of the Livermore Public Library
    .
   The community chose the book
   There There
    , voting online and in - person for one of six titles curated by the Tri - Valley Native American Center . Having
   received the most community votes ,
   There Therewill be featured for Livermore Reads Together 2024 .
   Throughout the month of March 2024 , the Library will host a series of events honoring Native American heritage and the themes in
   There There ,  
   planned in partnership with the Tri - Valley Native American Center .
   LIVERMORE READS TOGETHER EVENTS
   In collaboration with Tri - Valley Native American Center , the Livermore Public Library will kick off LRT with a small powwow at Civic Center Library Plaza ( 1188 S . Livermore Ave . ) , on Saturday , March 2 , 2024 , at 1 p . m . Community members are invited to a vibrant event celebrating Native American culture with singing , dancing , and art on display at the Civic Center Art Gallery .  
   EVENTS SCHEDULE
   March 1 through March 31: Art exhibition by Native American artists at the Civic Center Art Gallery , in collaboration with Tri - Valley Native American Center .  
   March 2 , 1 p . m . :  Kick off LRT with a small powwow at the Civic Center Library Plaza . Celebrate Native American culture with singing , dancing , and art . For people of all ages .
   March 5 through March 28: 
   Be a Water Protector
    self - guided activity at Springtown Branch Library . Get inspired by Native activists and the book 
   We Are Water Protectors
    by Carole Lindstrom . Drop in any time for this self - guided activity and a chance to win a prize . All ages .
   March 9 , 11 a . m . :  
   Empowerment Through Identity 
   poetry workshop at the Civic Center Library , Community Rooms A & B . Join artist and poet Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo to write and share poetry . This workshop is for ages 7 and older . Children ages 5 & 6 are welcome to join with one participating adult per child .  No registration is required .
   March 11 , 6 p . m .  Dreamcatcher Workshop for Teens with Tina Henson of Tri - Valley Native American Center at Rincon Branch Library .  
   Kids’ Beadwork Classes with Tina Henson of Tri - Valley Native American Center .  No registration required . All materials provided .   For Children grades 1 - 5 .
   March 12 , 4 p . m . at Springtown Branch Library
   March 15 , 3:30 p . m . at Rincon Branch Library
   March 16 , 2 p . m . at Civic Center Library , Community Rooms
   March 14 , 6:30 p . m . : Film screening of 
   Oyate
     ( 2022 , documentary ) at Civic Center Library Storytime Room . In the wake of the Dakota Access Pipeline protests , Indigenous people across the nation are using their newfound platform to shed light on the wide array of injustices committed against them to wake up the world and embark on the process of decolonization . Following key figureheads of the #NODAPL ( No Dakota Access Pipeline ) movement ,  
   Oyate 
   weaves together the story of colonization and the battle for decolonization that continues after the news cameras have stopped rolling . For adults .
   March 24 , 3 p . m . : Film screening of 
   Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World 
   at Civic Center Library Storytime Room . Watch this powerful documentary about the role of Native Americans in contemporary music history , featuring some of the greatest music stars of our time .  
   Rumble 
   reveals how Indigenous musicians helped shape the soundtracks of people’s lives and , through their contributions , influenced popular culture . For adults .  
   March 26 , 7 p . m . :  Book discussion of 
   There There
    . Join us for a discussion of the featured book at Civic Center Library Board Room . Facilitated by Adult Services Librarian Paul Sevilla . For adults and teens .  
   March 30 , 2 p . m . : 
   Verse on the Vine
    poetry reading featuring Kim Shuck and Lourdes Figueroa . Join us for this poetry event at the Civic Center Library , hosted by Livermore Poet Laureate Peggy Schimmelman . For adults .
