   Black History Month is a time to celebrate and commemorate the rich and diverse history of Black Americans . Livermore Public Library is committed to honoring Black history , community , and culture by providing events , materials , and resources that recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Americans .
   February 1 through February 29:Springtown Library Take & Make: Painting Craft . Use the kit to paint a portrait and learn about Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald , the portrait artists who created former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama’s official portraits .
   February 1 through February 29 , Civic Center Library Art Gallery:
   Art of the African Diaspora – Black History Month Art Exhibit . Visit the Civic Center Library Art Gallery to view the artwork of talented Bay Area artists . Art Of The African Diaspora ( AOTAD ) in partnership with Richmond Art Center , supports artists of African descent in the Bay Area through representation , professional development , and building a creative community . For a third consecutive year , Livermore Public Library is honored to host AOTAD for a satellite exhibit during Black History Month .  
   February 2 , 2024 , at 3 p . m . , Rincon Library
   : Freedom Quilt Craft . Learn about the Underground Railroad Freedom Quilts . Create a paper ‘patch’ for Rincon’s Freedom Quilt to honor those that fought for freedom . The quilt will be displayed throughout February . Stop by any time after Feb . 5 to view the quilt or add a patch . Ages 4 and up .  
   February 3 , 2024 , at 1 p . m . , Civic Center Library Storytime Room
   : House of Samba Kids . Expect to dance , sing , be involved , and be transported to many areas of the globe through the sounds of drums and percussion! All ages are welcome to participate in the performance .
   February 8 , 2024 , at 7 p . m . , Civic Center Library Storytime Room
   : Ashley Jemison – Saxophone Concert . Join us for a live saxophone concert by an ultra - talented musician , Ashley Jemison . She’s bringing a new school vibe to smooth jazz by covering the current styles of R&B and pop music , while adding a unique improvisational twist that leaves her audiences wanting more .
   February 10 , 2024 , at 12 p . m . , Civic Center Library Community Rooms A & B:Artist Reception honoring Art of the African Diaspora 2024 artists . Meet the artists , learn about their artwork , and enjoy appetizers .
   February 10 , 2024 , at 2:30 p . m . , Civic Center Library Storytime Room
    . Movie Screening . Enjoy free popcorn and a Disney Pixar movie about a jazz musician whose pursuit of his ambition also teaches him about the passion and purpose of life itself .
   February 17 , 2024 , at 11 a . m . , Civic Center Library Storytime Room
    . Library Concert with Granada High School Jazz Band . Join us for a morning of smooth jazz music featuring the talented and skilled musicians of the Granada High School Jazz Band . The students will present musical sets and pieces composed and performed by African American Jazz musicians and show us how the genre’s message of hope and celebration greatly influenced American culture and history .
   February 24 , 2024 , at 1 p . m . , Civic Center Storytime Room
   : Ancestor Portraits by JAMM the Artist . Join JAMM the Artist to honor , remember , and celebrate family , friends , and heroes of the African Diaspora from the past and present . Participants will learn the fundamental skills and techniques to create a monochromatic portrait of a historical figure or personal hero using pencil , ink , and watercolor . All supplies will be provided . If you plan to honor a personal figure , email a photo by February 17 to
