☷Lake County Man Arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

In Ocala , Florida , a guy named Frank Thomas Diviak , who ' s 23 and from Altoona , got arrested . He ' s been charged with having a gun even though he ' s a convicted felon , having a stolen gun , and stealing a gun from a licensed firearm dealer . If he ' s found guilty , he could be looking at up to 15 years in federal prison for having a gun as a felon , and up to 10 years for both having a stolen gun and stealing from a licensed dealer . A grand jury indicted him on December 20 , 2023 . Diviak has a record of three state felonies , including assault with a deadly weapon and evading the cops . On December 4 , 2023 , he walked into a pawn shop in Lake County , grabbed a revolver from the display , shoved it in his pocket , and took off on his bike . The cops caught up to him pretty quickly and as he was surrendering , the stolen gun fell out of his clothes . But since he ' s a felon , he ' s not allowed to have guns or ammo under federal law . The Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives and the Eustis Police Department investigated the case , and Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk will be prosecuting . This whole thing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods , a program that aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer . The Department launched a strategy to strengthen Project Safe Neighborhoods on May 26 , 2021 , focusing on building trust in communities , supporting organizations that prevent violence , targeting enforcement , and measuring the results .
