☷Jefferson Parish Man Guilty of Possessing Unregistered Silencer

   In New Orleans , Joseph Metzler , III , a 44 - year - old from Gretna , pleaded guilty on April 2 , 2024 , to possessing an unregistered silencer . He had received firearm parts from China illegally , and law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at his home , where they found the unregistered silencer . Metzler could face up to 10 years in prison , followed by supervised release , a fine of up to $250 , 000 , and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100 . Sentencing is scheduled for July 23 , 2024 . This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods , a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities . U . S . Attorney Duane A . Evans commended the work of the investigating agencies , including Homeland Security Investigations , the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms , and Explosives , and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff ' s Office .
