☷Heroes of Bataan reception honors memory of those who served

Chris and John Schurtz , along with Carol Oquin and Oscar Otero , paid tribute to their family members who were survivors of Bataan . John Schurtz and Katie von Ende also honored Beverly Ben Skardon , who used to participate in the Bataan Memorial Death March . Oscar Otero and Margaret Garcia remembered her father Evans R . Garcia , a survivor . The Remember Bataan Foundation of Las Cruces hosted a reception to honor the Heroes of Bataan & Corregidor and their families . During the event , family members shared stories of their loved ones who were part of the Battling Bastards of Bataan . WSMR Commander Col . George C . Turner highlighted the sacrifices made by the American and Filipino Soldiers who marched through the Philippines . The Bataan Memorial Death March will take place at White Sands Missile Range , where participants will see banners representing the Heroes of Bataan . Family members like Tom and Peggy Lindsay attended the reception to honor their relatives who were survivors of Bataan . Tom mentioned that they have been participating in the march since 1997 . Also shoutouts to Valdemar De Herrera ( still kickin ' ) , Paul Schurtz , Gerald Greeman , Evans R . Garcia , David Johns , J . Raymond Thwaits , Oscar Otero , Susano Madril , Henry Grady Stanley , Jack Lewis and Beverly “Ben” Skardon , and a bunch of other awesome folks .
