☷Guard Vice Chief Emphasizes Cyber Readiness During Maine Visit

The National Guard is always ready and always there , especially for a group of Maine National Guardsmen who specialize in operating in cyberspace . Air Force Lt . Gen . Marc Sasseville recently visited the Maine Guard ' s cyber facilities in Bangor to see firsthand the importance of cyber readiness and defense . The Guard has defensive cyber operations units in every state and advanced cyber units in over 35 states ready to support combatant commands overseas or respond to cyber attacks locally or internationally . In 2022 , the Maine Guard quickly assisted Montenegro after a ransomware attack , showcasing the importance of strong partnerships and cyber capacity at the state level . Sasseville emphasized the need for increased cyber capacity at the state level to protect critical infrastructure . Governors will turn to those with cyber expertise when faced with cyber threats . The vice chief is looking into ways to strengthen the National Guard ' s cyber capabilities , such as reorganizing cyber assets , closing the talent gap , and improving cooperation between states during cyber challenges . He compared it to using radios or vehicles for events , emphasizing the importance of developing cyber capacity . During his visit to Maine , he also spoke with Soldiers and officers about recruitment challenges , artificial intelligence , and national defense . The commander of the 101st Air Refueling Wing praised the vice chief ' s visit , highlighting the importance of their work . Sasseville expressed pride in the Maine Guard ' s progress and praised the dedication of the Soldiers and Airmen he met .
