Louis Lamar , an IT specialist at Army Field Support Battalion - Germany , grabs some IT equipment from the shelf at the battalion headquarters in Vilseck , Germany . Lamar has been working at AFSBn - Germany since August 2022 and is in charge of the day - to - day IT operations at the battalion and the Army Prepositioned Stocks - 2 worksite in Dülmen , Germany . With 15 years of active - duty service as a former signal support systems specialist and public affairs sergeant , Lamar is one of two IT specialists at Army Field Support Battalion - Germany in Vilseck . He ' s currently working on a copy machine at the battalion headquarters and has had previous experience working as a contractor for the Marines and the Army before becoming an Army civilian employee in 2019 . In Vilseck , Germany , Louis Lamar , an IT specialist at Army Field Support Battalion - Germany , is busy with his daily tasks . Lamar , who spent 15 years as a Soldier , now handles various responsibilities such as account maintenance , network issues , trouble tickets , cyber security training , and desk telephone and smartphone support . He is currently preparing the Dülmen worksite for the upcoming DEFENDER 24 exercise , as there is currently no IT personnel on site . Additionally , Lamar is involved in planning the communication systems support requirements for the Coleman APS - 2 worksite in Mannheim , Germany , which his battalion will be assuming command of later this year . He is also working on ordering supplies for Dülmen and establishing the budget for new equipment and supplies for fiscal year 2025 . Lamar is excited about the opportunities for career growth that being in this position brings and is constantly learning new things . I ' ve been lucky to have some great mentors , like Toni Helman and Jenny Chavez , who have shown me the ropes of sustainment operations . After working as a contractor for the Marines and Army , I landed a job as an Army civilian in 2019 . I ' m really grateful for the opportunity to be here and expand my career in Europe , learning more about the Army and helping with APS - 2 operations . The Germany battalion is part of the 405th Army Field Support Brigade and plays a crucial role in providing sustainment support for U . S . Army Europe and Africa . The APS - 2 program is vital for maintaining readiness and supporting the warfighter . The 405th AFSB is based in Kaiserslautern , Germany and supports U . S . Forces throughout Europe and Africa .
