Brig . Gen . David Zinn and Command Sgt . Maj . Robert Hayne from the 25th Infantry Division unveiled the Medal of Honor Memorial at Schofield Barracks , Hawaii on March 27 , 2024 . They added the name of Specialist Five Dwight W . Birdwell , who was recognized for his bravery during the Vietnam War . Birdwell ' s actions on January 31 , 1968 with Troop C , 3rd Squadron , 4th Cavalry Regiment were honored in a ceremony attended by division members and guests . Brig . Gen . Zinn praised Birdwell ' s courage and leadership , stating that his story will continue to inspire future generations of Soldiers . The unveiling ceremony included a photo with Birdwell , commemorating his heroic actions that saved many lives . Even though Birdwell stays humble when talking about his experiences , his feelings about receiving the Medal of Honor haven ' t changed . He believes it ' s really a tribute to the unit he served with at Tan Son Nhut and the guys who were there . He sees it as recognition of their efforts in saving the air base from the North Vietnamese . Birdwell made these comments after being awarded the prestigious military decoration , saying it ' s not about him but about the unit , the 3 - 4 Cav . The Medal of Honor Plaque can be found at the 25th Infantry Division Headquarters , maintained by the 25th Infantry Division Association and the Soldiers of the Division . For more on Dwight W . Birdwell ' s selfless act , check out the Congressional Medal of Honor Society website .
